Richard Wagamese
Born October 14th, 1955, died March 10th, 2017.
Richard was a Canadian author. He was born in Minaki and he died in Kamloops. He got his first job as a newspaper author. He worked at New Breed, a First Nations newspaper. He also worked at the Calgary Harold. He won the National Newspaper Award in 1991.
Richard was stolen from his family and forced to go to a residential school. After this, he was put into foster homes in Northwest Ontario and got adopted at 9. He wasn’t allowed any contact with his parents or heritage. He finally reunited with his family when he was 23. He moved to Kamloops later in his life. He got married and divorced 3 times and has 2 sons. He died because of natural causes and he was engaged when he died.
